See Men's seed race 2/26/2008 for Part 1, where Wright State and CSU end up tied at 12-6, and Men's seed race 2/27/2008 for Part 2, where Wright State ties Butler at 14-4.

Part 3 deals with the case where Wright State goes 13-5 (or 12-6 and YSU beats CSU or 14-4 and Butler beats Detroit) to secure the 2 seed, Butler clinches the 1 seed, and CSU ends up with the 3 seed.

Same format as before

1. 4th place is 10-8 -- either UIC or Milwaukee, who play each
other on Saturday.

a. UIC is 10-8 and gets the 4 seed.

They do this by beating both Milwaukee and Green Bay.

1. 5th place is 9-9

Milwaukee can finish 9-9 by beating Loyola. Valpo
can finish 9-9 by beating Wright State and Detroit.
Green Bay cannot finish 9-9 because they will have
lost to UIC.

a. Valpo wins out and ties with Milwaukee at 9-9

Valpo wins the tiebreaker by sweeping #2 Wright
State while Milwaukee only split with them.
Valpo gets the 5 seed and Milwaukee gets the 6
seed.

1. Green Bay finishes 8-10 by beating Loyola

Green Bay gets the 7 seed.

With Loyola losing both remaining games,
they finish 6-12.

a. YSU beats CSU to also finish 6-12

YSU split with Loyola. Both were
swept by #1 Wright State and #2 Butler.
Both would have split with #3 CSU.
#4 UIC swept Loyola, but split with
YSU, So YSU gets the 8 seed and Loyola
the 9.

b. YSU loses to CSU to finish 5-13

Loyola gets the 8 seed and YSU gets
the 9 seed.

2. Green Bay finishes 7-11 by losing to
Loyola, who would also be 7-11

They would have split with each other.
They both were swept by #1 Butler.
However, Green Bay split with #3 Wright
State while Loyola was swept by them,
so Green Bay gets the 7 seed, Loyola
the 8 seed, and YSU the 9 seed (6-12).

b. Valpo loses at least 10, giving Milwaukee
the 5 seed.

1. Green Bay beats Loyola and Valpo beats
Detroit to both finish 8-10.

The two teams split, both were swept
by #1 Butler, both will have split with
#2 Wright State, but Green Bay split
with #3 CSU while Valpo was swept by
them, so Green Bay gets the 6 seed and
Valpo gets the 7 seed.

Once again, if YSU beats CSU, they win
the tiebreaker with Loyola based on
#4 UIC and get the 8 seed with Loyola
the 9. Otherwise, Loyola gets the 8
and YSU the 9.

2. Green Bay beats Loyola and Valpo loses
to Detroit

Green Bay alone finishes 8-10 and gets
the 6 seed. Loyola again finishes
6-12 so Valpo gets the 7 seed, and the
8 and 9 seed depend on the YSU-CSU game
as shown above.

3. Green Bay loses to Loyola and Valpo
beats Detroit

Valpo alone finishes 8-10 and gets the
6 seed. Green Bay ties with Loyola at
7-11. As shown above, Green Bay wins
the tiebreaker due to Wright State, and
gets the 7 seed with Loyola getting the
8 seed. YSU gets the 9 seed.

4. Green Bay loses to Loyola and Valpo
loses to Detroit

Loyola, Green Bay, and Valpo tie at 7-11.
As show before, Loyola wins this tie
breaker by their sweep of Valpo, getting
the 6 seed, Green Bay the 7 seed, and
Valpo the 8 seed. YSU gets the 9 seed.

2. 5th place is 8-10 -- this must include Milwaukee.
Valpo can also finish 8-10 by beating Detroit
(while losing to Wright State). Green Bay can
also finish 8-10 by beating Loyola, while Loyola
can finish 8-10 by beating Green Bay (they will
have also beaten Milwaukee).

a. Milwaukee and Green Bay finish 8-10, while
Valpo finishes 7-11

Milwaukee swept Green Bay, so Milwaukee gets
the 5 seed and Green Bay gets the 6 seed.
Loyola also finishes 7-11 and they swept
Valpo so they get the 7 seed, Valpo the 8
seed, and YSU the 9 seed.

b. Milwaukee, Green Bay, and Valpo finish 8-10

Milwaukee is 3-1, Valpo 2-2, and Green Bay
1-3 in the round-robin head-to-head, so
Milwaukee gets the 5 seed, Valpo the 6 seed,
and Green Bay the 7 seed.

c. Milwaukee and Loyola finish 8-10, while Valpo
finishes 7-11

Loyola would have swept Milwaukee, so Loyola
get the 5 seed and Milwaukee the 6 seed.

Valpo and Green Bay tie at 7-11. They split
with each other. They both were swept
by #1 Butler. They both will have split
with #2 Wright State. Green Bay split with
#3 CSU, but Valpo was swept by them, so Green
Bay gets the 7 seed, Valpo the 8 seed, and
YSU the 9 seed.

d. Milwaukee, Loyola, and Valpo finish 8-10

Milwaukee will be 1-3, Valpo 1-3, and Loyola
4-0 in the round-robin head-to-head, so
Loyola gets the 5 seed. Milwaukee split
with Valpo. They both were swept by #1
Butler. They both will have split with
#2 Wright State. Milwaukee split with #3
CSU, but Valpo was swept by them, so
Milwaukee gets the 6 seed, Valpo the 7 seed,
Green Bay the 8 seed, and YSU the 9 seed.

b. Milwaukee is 10-8 and gets the 4 seed.

They do this by beating both UIC and Loyola.

1. 5th place is 9-9

UIC can finish 9-9 by beating Green Bay.
Valpo can finish 9-9 by beating both
Detroit and Wright State. Green Bay can
finish 9-9 by beating both UIC and Loyola.

a. UIC beats Green Bay, and Valpo wins
out

Valpo wins this tiebreaker as has been
shown via Wright State. Valpo gets the
5 seed, UIC the 6 seed.

1. Green Bay beats Loyola

Green Bay gets the 7 seed at 8-10.
Loyola finishes 6-12, but as was
shown in part 2, Milwaukee would
break the tie with YSU in favor of
Loyola anyway, so Loyola gets the 8
seed and YSU the 9 seed.

2. Loyola beats Green Bay to tie them
at 7-11

Green Bay will have split with Loyola,
and Butler swept both, so Wright
State breaks the tie in favor of
Green Bay who split with them while
Loyola was swept, so Green Bay gets
the 7 seed, Loyola the 8 seed, and
YSU the 9 seed.

b. UIC beats Green Bay and Valpo loses at
least 10.

UIC gets the 5 seed.

1. Green Bay beats Loyola and Valpo
beats Wright State but loses to
Detroit

Both finish 8-10, and Valpo wins
the tiebreaker by sweeping Wright
State to get the 6 seed and Green
Bay gets the 7 seed.

In this case, the 8 and 9 seed
depend on the YSU-CSU game
because UIC finishes ahead of
Valpo and breaks the tie in favor
of YSU.

2. Green Bay beats Loyola and Valpo
beats Detroit but loses to
Wright State

Both finish 8-10, but this time
the tiebreaker falls past Wright
State since they both will have
split with them. #3 CSU breaks
the tie for Green Bay as has been
shown, giving Green Bay the 6
seed and Valpo the 7 seed. As
in the previous case, the 8 and
9 seeds depend on the YSU-CSU
game.

3. Green Bay beats Loyola and Valpo
loses out.

Green Bay gets the 6 seed, Valpo
ends up with the 7 seed, and again
the 8 and 9 seeds depend on the
CSU-YSU game.

4. Green Bay loses to Loyola and
Valpo finishes 8-10 (here it
doesn't matter which game is
won)

In this case, Green Bay finishes
tied with Loyola at 7-11 and
Valpo gets the 6 seed. Green
Bay wins the tiebreaker as has
been shown via Wright State and
gets the 7 seed, Loyola the 8
seed, and YSU the 9 seed.

5. Green Bay loses to Loyola and
Valpo loses out

All three teams are tied at 7-11.
As has been shown, Loyola wins
the head-to-head and gets the 6
seed, Green Bay finishes 2nd for
the 7 seed, and Valpo is left
with the 8 seed. YSU gets the 9
seed.

2. 5th place is 8-10

This must include UIC and Green Bay (who
necessarily beats Loyola). Valpo can also
finish 8-10 by splitting their final two
games.

a. UIC, Green Bay, and Valpo tie at 8-10

Head-to-head is splits all around. All
were swept by #1 Butler.

1. Valpo beats Wright State but loses
to Detroit

Valpo wins the tiebreaker, as has
been shown, and takes the 5 seed.

UIC wins the remaining tiebreaker
via Milwaukee as has been shown.
UIC gets the 6 seed, Green Bay the
7 seed.

Once again, the 8 and 9 seeds
depend on the CSU-YSU game.

2. Valpo beats Detroit but loses to
Wright State

As has been shown, Valpo loses this
tiebreaker and ends up with the 7
seed. As above, UIC wins the tie
with Green Bay, giving UIC the 5
seed and Green Bay the 6 seed, and
the 8 and 9 seeds depend on the
CSU-YSU game.

b. UIC and Green Bay tie at 8-10, Valpo
loses out to finish 7-11

As above, UIC gets the 5 seed, Green
Bay the 6 seed, and Valpo the 7 seed,
and the 8 and 9 seeds depend on the
CSU-YSU game.

2. 4th place is 9-9

UIC, Milwaukee, Green Bay, and Valpo can all reach
9-9.

a. UIC loses to Milwaukee, Milwaukee beats Loyola,
and Valpo wins out (Green Bay must lose to UIC)

These teams split with each other, so the tie
is broken by Wright State in favor of Valpo who
gets the 4 seed. Milwaukee wins the tie with
UIC -- also via Wright State -- and takes the
5 seed, giving UIC the 6 seed.

1. Green Bay beats Loyola for the 7 seed

Since Valpo gets the 4 seed, Loyola clinches
the 8 seed even if YSU beats CSU, giving YSU
the 9 seed.

2. Green Bay loses to Loyola to tie at 7-11

In this case, Green Bay wins the tiebreaker
via Wright State and again gets the 7 seed,
with Loyola getting the 8 seed outright,
and YSU gets the 9 seed.

b. UIC loses to Milwaukee, Milwaukee beats Loyola
and Valpo loses at least 10

As above, Milwaukee wins this tiebreaker to get
the 4 seed, with UIC getting the 5 seed.

1. Valpo and Green Bay tie at 8-10 for the 5
and 6 seeds

The result of this tiebreaker depends on
the Valpo-Wright State game. If Valpo loses
Green Bay wins the tie via CSU. If Valpo
wins, they win the tie.

Since UIC finishes ahead of Valpo, the 8 and
9 seeds depend on the CSU-YSU game as seen
before.

2. Valpo 8-10, Green Bay 7-11

Valpo gets the 6 seed, Green Bay ties with
Loyola at 7-11, but since Milwaukee is the
4 seed, Loyola wins this tiebreaker and
gets the 7 seed, Green Bay the 8 seed, and
YSU the 9 seed.

3. Green Bay 8-10, Valpo 7-11

Green Bay gets the 6 seed, Loyola wins the
tie with Valpo for the 7 seed, Valpo gets
the 8 seed, YSU the 9 seed.

4. Green Bay and Valpo tie at 7-11

Loyola also ties at 7-11, and wins the tie
with a 3-1 record, getting the 6 seed.
Green Bay finishes 2nd at 2-2 for the 7 seed,
and Valpo gets the 8 seed. YSU gets the 9
seed.

c. UIC beats Milwaukee, Milwaukee loses to Loyola,
and Valpo and Green Bay win out

Loyola would finish 7-11 and get the 8 seed,
and YSU would get the 9 seed.

UIC is 4-2, Milwaukee 3-3, Valpo 3-3, and Green
Bay 2-4 in the head-to-head. So UIC gets the 4
seed and Green Bay the 7 seed. Valpo wins the
tie with Milwaukee via Wright State, and gets
the 5 seed, with Milwaukee getting the 6 seed.

d. UIC beats Milwaukee, Milwaukee loses to Loyola,
and Valpo wins out

Well, I failed to get it all done before tip-off time. My bad. It just seems like the analysis trail is never ending. Somehow I managed to stay on top of it the last two years with the Mid-Con tie-breakers, but couldn't quite finish it off this time.

I will be back tomorrow to start over with hopefully less complexities!
