Men's seed race 02/29/2008

Scores from 2/29/2008:

Valpo 59 Detroit 56
Milwaukee 68 Loyola 53
Green Bay 76 UIC 73
Butler 66 Wright State 61

Seed Team Conf 1st-round match up
---- ---------- ---- ------------------
#1 Butler 15-2 Double-bye Clinched #1 seed
#2 Wright St. 12-5 Double-bye
Can clinch #2 seed
by beating Valpo
#3 CSU 11-6 Would host Detroit
Needs help to get #2
#4 Milwaukee 9-8 Would host YSU
Can clinch #4 seed with win
on Saturday
#5 Valparaiso 8-9 Would host Loyola
Can get at least #6 by winning out
#6 Green Bay 8-9 Would host UIC
Can get at least #6 by winning out
#7 UIC 8-9 Can get the #4 seed with win
on Saturday
#8 Loyola 6-11 Can secure the #8 seed
by winning on Saturday
#9 YSU 5-12 Needs help to get #8,
can go no higher
#10 Detroit 3-14 Clinched #10

Currently, Valpo holds the tiebreaker with UIC and Green Bay because they are 1-0 against Wright State (though that can change on Saturday when Valpo hosts Wright State). Green Bay split with them and currently holds the 6 seed, while UIC was swept by them and holds the 7 seed.

Looking ahead to this Saturday, the final day of ESPN's Judgment Week:

Detroit has clinched the 10 seed, since they were swept by YSU.

Butler has clinched the #1 seed by beating Wright St.

Wright State can clinch the #2 seed with 1 win or 1 CSU loss. They play Valpo and Butler and CSU plays YSU.

If Wright State and CSU both end up tied at 12-6, here is what can happen:

First of all, this implies that YSU is 5-13 (clinching the 9 seed) and Valpo is 9-9.

They have split with each other and will have both split against Butler, so...

1. 4th place is 10-8

Only Milwaukee can attain a 10-8 record (by beating UIC
on Saturday). This would guarantee the 4 seed for
Milwaukee.

This implies that UIC is 8-10.

Both Wright State and CSU split with Milwaukee, so we
have to move on to 5th place.

5th place has to be 9-9, because Valpo in this scenario
has to be 9-9.

a. Valpo is the only 9-9 team

CSU is 2-0 while Wright State would be 0-2, so CSU
gets the 2 seed, Wright State the 3 seed, and Valpo
the 5 seed.

This puts both UIC and Green Bay at 8-10, with
Loyola at 7-11 (Loyola beats Green Bay). The two
teams have now split. They both were swept by #1
Butler. They both split with #2 CSU, but UIC was
swept by #3 Wright State while Green Bay split with
them, so Green Bay gets the 6 seed, UIC the 7 seed,
and Loyola the 8 seed.

b. Valpo and Green Bay are 9-9

CSU is 3-1 (2-0 against Valpo, 1-1 against Green
Bay), while Wright State would 1-3 (1-1 against
Green Bay, 0-2 against Valpo), so CSU gets the 2
seed, and Wright State the 3 seed.

In this case, CSU is the tiebreaker and it favors
Green Bay (1-1) over Valpo (0-2), so Green Bay gets
the 5 seed, Valpo the 6 seed.

UIC would be 8-10, and Green Bay would have beaten
Loyola. Hence, UIC gets the 7 seed, and Loyola the
8 seed.

2. 4th place is 9-9

This means that Milwaukee loses to UIC on Saturday. At
least these two teams and Valpo would be tied at 9-9,
and possibly Green Bay as well.

a. Milwaukee, UIC, and Valpo are the only 9-9 teams

Wright State is 3-3 (2-0 against UIC, 1-1 against
Milwaukee, 0-2 against Valpo), while CSU is 4-2 (1-1
against Milwaukee, 1-1 against UIC, 2-0 against
Valpo), so CSU gets the 2 seed and Wright State gets
the 3 seed.

UIC would be 3-1 (2-0 against Milwaukee, 1-1 against
Valpo), Valpo is 2-2 (1-1 against each), and
Milwaukee would be 1-3 (0-2 against UIC, 1-1 against
Valpo), so UIC would get the 4 seed, Valpo the 5
seed, and Milwaukee the 6 seed.

Green Bay loses to Loyola to finish 8-10 and get the
7 seed, while Loyola has the 8 seed at 7-11.

b. Milwaukee, UIC, Valpo, and Green Bay all finish 9-9
(Green Bay beats Loyola)

Wright State is 4-4 (2-0 against UIC, 1-1 against
Green Bay, 1-1 against Milwaukee, 0-2 against Valpo),
while CSU is 5-3 (1-1 against UIC, 1-1 against Green
Bay, and 2-0 against Valpo). CSU gets the 2 seed and
Wright State the 3 seed.

Milwaukee will be 3-3, UIC 4-2, Valpo 3-3, and Green
Bay 2-4 in the round-robin head-to-head. Thus, UIC
gets the 4 seed and Green Bay gets the 7 seed.

Milwaukee split with Valpo, they both were swept by
#1 Butler, but Milwaukee split with #2 CSU while
Valpo was swept by them, so Milwaukee gets the 5 seed
and Valpo gets the 6 seed.

Loyola gets the 8 seed.

If instead, Wright State beats Valpo to finish 13-5, they secure the 2 seed, and CSU ends up with the 3 seed.

Valpo finishes 8-10.

1. Milwaukee beats UIC to finish 10-8 and get the 4 seed

UIC finishes 8-10

a. 5th place is 9-9

Green Bay is the only team left that can finish 9-9
by beating Loyola on Saturday. This gives them the
5 seed.

UIC and Valpo would tie at 8-10. In this case the
tie is still broken by Wright State in Valpo's
favor because UIC was swept by Wright State while
Valpo will have split with them. Valpo gets the 6
seed and UIC the 7 seed.

Loyola finishes 6-12. If YSU beats CSU, they tie
with Loyola. The two teams split, they were both
swept by #1 Butler and #2 Wright State, they both
split with #3 CSU, but Loyola split with #4
Milwaukee while YSU was swept by them, so Loyola
wins the tiebreaker and gets the 8 seed, and YSU
gets the 9 seed.

b. 5th place is 8-10

This means that Green Bay loses to Loyola, who
finishes 7-11 and gets the 8 seed. YSU gets the
9 seed.

UIC, Valpo, and Green Bay are in a 3-way tie for
5th. They each split with the other 2, they all
were swept by #1 Butler, but while Valpo and
Green Bay will have split with #2 Wright State,
UIC was swept by them and drops out to get the
7 seed.

The remaining tie falls to #3 CSU who favors
Green Bay (1-1) over Valpo (0-2), so Green Bay
gets the 5 seed, and Valpo gets the 6 seed.

2. Milwaukee loses to UIC so that both finish 9-9

Green Bay can also finish 9-9 by beating Loyola.

a. Milwaukee, UIC, and Green Bay finish 9-9

Valpo finishes 8-10 and gets the 7 seed.
Loyola finishes 6-12.

Milwaukee is 2-2, UIC 3-1, and Green Bay 1-3
in the round-robin head-to-head, so UIC gets
the 4 seed, Milwaukee the 5 seed, and Green
Bay the 6 seed.

If YSU beats CSU, the tiebreaker falls to #4
UIC, who swept Loyola while splitting with YSU
so YSU gets the 8 seed and Loyola gets the 9
seed.

If YSU loses to CSU, Loyola gets the 8 seed
and YSU gets the 9 seed.

b. Milwaukee and UIC alone are tied at 9-9
(Green Bay loses to Loyola)

UIC swept Milwaukee, so once again, UIC gets
the 4 seed and Milwaukee gets the 5 seed.

Valpo and Green Bay tie at 8-10. The tiebreaker
falls to #3 CSU, who favors Green Bay, as has
been shown above, so Green Bay gets the 6 seed
and Valpo the 7 seed.

Loyola finishes 7-11 and gets the 8 seed, and
YSU gets the 9 seed.

Finally, if Wright State goes 12-6 and YSU beats CSU, Wright State still secures the 2 seed, and CSU ends up with the 3 seed.

In this case, Valpo finishes 9-9 and YSU finishes 6-12.

1. Milwaukee beats UIC to finish 10-8 and get the 4 seed

UIC finishes 8-10

5th place has to be 9-9 because Valpo is 9-9 in this
scenario. Green Bay can also finish 9-9 by beating
Loyola on Saturday.

a. Valpo alone is 9-9 and gets the 5 seed

UIC and Green Bay would tie at 8-10. As shown
above, Green Bay wins this tiebreaker because
they split with #2 Wright State, while UIC was
swept by them, so Green Bay gets the 6 seed, and
UIC the 7 seed.

Loyola finishes 7-11 and gets the 8 seed, while
YSU gets the 9 seed.

b. Valpo and Green Bay tie at 9-9

In this case, Valpo wins the tiebreaker because
they will have swept Wright State while Green
Bay split with them. Valpo gets the 5 seed,
Green Bay the 6 seed.

UIC finishes 8-10 and gets the 7 seed.

Loyola finishes tied with YSU at 6-12, but as
shown above, they win the tiebreaker and get the
8 seed, while YSU gets the 9 seed.

2. Milwaukee loses to UIC so that both finish 9-9

Green Bay can also finish 9-9 by beating Loyola.

a. Milwaukee, UIC, Valpo, and Green Bay finish
9-9

Milwaukee is 3-3, UIC 4-2, Valpo 3-3, and
Green Bay 2-4 in the round-robin head-to-
head, so UIC gets the 4 seed, and Green
Bay the 7 seed.

Again, Valpo wins the tiebreaker with
Milwaukee via Wright State and gets the 5
seed, and Milwaukee gets the 6 seed.

Loyola ties with YSU at 6-12. As seen
above, UIC breaks this tie in favor of YSU,
who gets the 8 seed while Loyola gets the 9
seed.

b. Milwaukee, UIC, and Valpo alone are tied at 9-9
(Green Bay loses to Loyola)

UIC is 3-1, Valpo 2-2, and Milwaukee 1-3 in the
round-robin head-to-head, so once again, UIC gets
the 4 seed, Valpo the 5 seed, and Milwaukee the
6 seed.

Green Bay finishes 8-10 and gets the 7 seed.
Loyola finishes 7-11 and gets the 8 seed. YSU
gets the 9 seed.

OK! That was a bit easier. A few complications were eliminated tonight.

#10 Detroit 3-13 Clinched #10

See Men's seed race 2/26/2008 for Part 1, where Wright State and CSU end up tied at 12-6, and Men's seed race 2/27/2008 for Part 2, where Wright State ties Butler at 14-4.

Part 3 deals with the case where Wright State goes 13-5 (or 12-6 and YSU beats CSU or 14-4 and Butler beats Detroit) to secure the 2 seed, Butler clinches the 1 seed, and CSU ends up with the 3 seed.

Same format as before

1. 4th place is 10-8 -- either UIC or Milwaukee, who play each
other on Saturday.

a. UIC is 10-8 and gets the 4 seed.

They do this by beating both Milwaukee and Green Bay.

1. 5th place is 9-9

Milwaukee can finish 9-9 by beating Loyola. Valpo
can finish 9-9 by beating Wright State and Detroit.
Green Bay cannot finish 9-9 because they will have
lost to UIC.

a. Valpo wins out and ties with Milwaukee at 9-9

Valpo wins the tiebreaker by sweeping #2 Wright
State while Milwaukee only split with them.
Valpo gets the 5 seed and Milwaukee gets the 6
seed.

1. Green Bay finishes 8-10 by beating Loyola

Green Bay gets the 7 seed.

With Loyola losing both remaining games,
they finish 6-12.

a. YSU beats CSU to also finish 6-12

YSU split with Loyola. Both were
swept by #1 Wright State and #2 Butler.
Both would have split with #3 CSU.
#4 UIC swept Loyola, but split with
YSU, So YSU gets the 8 seed and Loyola
the 9.

b. YSU loses to CSU to finish 5-13

Loyola gets the 8 seed and YSU gets
the 9 seed.

2. Green Bay finishes 7-11 by losing to
Loyola, who would also be 7-11

They would have split with each other.
They both were swept by #1 Butler.
However, Green Bay split with #3 Wright
State while Loyola was swept by them,
so Green Bay gets the 7 seed, Loyola
the 8 seed, and YSU the 9 seed (6-12).

b. Valpo loses at least 10, giving Milwaukee
the 5 seed.

1. Green Bay beats Loyola and Valpo beats
Detroit to both finish 8-10.

The two teams split, both were swept
by #1 Butler, both will have split with
#2 Wright State, but Green Bay split
with #3 CSU while Valpo was swept by
them, so Green Bay gets the 6 seed and
Valpo gets the 7 seed.

Once again, if YSU beats CSU, they win
the tiebreaker with Loyola based on
#4 UIC and get the 8 seed with Loyola
the 9. Otherwise, Loyola gets the 8
and YSU the 9.

2. Green Bay beats Loyola and Valpo loses
to Detroit

Green Bay alone finishes 8-10 and gets
the 6 seed. Loyola again finishes
6-12 so Valpo gets the 7 seed, and the
8 and 9 seed depend on the YSU-CSU game
as shown above.

3. Green Bay loses to Loyola and Valpo
beats Detroit

Valpo alone finishes 8-10 and gets the
6 seed. Green Bay ties with Loyola at
7-11. As shown above, Green Bay wins
the tiebreaker due to Wright State, and
gets the 7 seed with Loyola getting the
8 seed. YSU gets the 9 seed.

4. Green Bay loses to Loyola and Valpo
loses to Detroit

Loyola, Green Bay, and Valpo tie at 7-11.
As show before, Loyola wins this tie
breaker by their sweep of Valpo, getting
the 6 seed, Green Bay the 7 seed, and
Valpo the 8 seed. YSU gets the 9 seed.

2. 5th place is 8-10 -- this must include Milwaukee.
Valpo can also finish 8-10 by beating Detroit
(while losing to Wright State). Green Bay can
also finish 8-10 by beating Loyola, while Loyola
can finish 8-10 by beating Green Bay (they will
have also beaten Milwaukee).

a. Milwaukee and Green Bay finish 8-10, while
Valpo finishes 7-11

Milwaukee swept Green Bay, so Milwaukee gets
the 5 seed and Green Bay gets the 6 seed.
Loyola also finishes 7-11 and they swept
Valpo so they get the 7 seed, Valpo the 8
seed, and YSU the 9 seed.

b. Milwaukee, Green Bay, and Valpo finish 8-10

Milwaukee is 3-1, Valpo 2-2, and Green Bay
1-3 in the round-robin head-to-head, so
Milwaukee gets the 5 seed, Valpo the 6 seed,
and Green Bay the 7 seed.

c. Milwaukee and Loyola finish 8-10, while Valpo
finishes 7-11

Loyola would have swept Milwaukee, so Loyola
get the 5 seed and Milwaukee the 6 seed.

Valpo and Green Bay tie at 7-11. They split
with each other. They both were swept
by #1 Butler. They both will have split
with #2 Wright State. Green Bay split with
#3 CSU, but Valpo was swept by them, so Green
Bay gets the 7 seed, Valpo the 8 seed, and
YSU the 9 seed.

d. Milwaukee, Loyola, and Valpo finish 8-10

Milwaukee will be 1-3, Valpo 1-3, and Loyola
4-0 in the round-robin head-to-head, so
Loyola gets the 5 seed. Milwaukee split
with Valpo. They both were swept by #1
Butler. They both will have split with
#2 Wright State. Milwaukee split with #3
CSU, but Valpo was swept by them, so
Milwaukee gets the 6 seed, Valpo the 7 seed,
Green Bay the 8 seed, and YSU the 9 seed.

b. Milwaukee is 10-8 and gets the 4 seed.

They do this by beating both UIC and Loyola.

1. 5th place is 9-9

UIC can finish 9-9 by beating Green Bay.
Valpo can finish 9-9 by beating both
Detroit and Wright State. Green Bay can
finish 9-9 by beating both UIC and Loyola.

a. UIC beats Green Bay, and Valpo wins
out

Valpo wins this tiebreaker as has been
shown via Wright State. Valpo gets the
5 seed, UIC the 6 seed.

1. Green Bay beats Loyola

Green Bay gets the 7 seed at 8-10.
Loyola finishes 6-12, but as was
shown in part 2, Milwaukee would
break the tie with YSU in favor of
Loyola anyway, so Loyola gets the 8
seed and YSU the 9 seed.

2. Loyola beats Green Bay to tie them
at 7-11

Green Bay will have split with Loyola,
and Butler swept both, so Wright
State breaks the tie in favor of
Green Bay who split with them while
Loyola was swept, so Green Bay gets
the 7 seed, Loyola the 8 seed, and
YSU the 9 seed.

b. UIC beats Green Bay and Valpo loses at
least 10.

UIC gets the 5 seed.

1. Green Bay beats Loyola and Valpo
beats Wright State but loses to
Detroit

Both finish 8-10, and Valpo wins
the tiebreaker by sweeping Wright
State to get the 6 seed and Green
Bay gets the 7 seed.

In this case, the 8 and 9 seed
depend on the YSU-CSU game
because UIC finishes ahead of
Valpo and breaks the tie in favor
of YSU.

2. Green Bay beats Loyola and Valpo
beats Detroit but loses to
Wright State

Both finish 8-10, but this time
the tiebreaker falls past Wright
State since they both will have
split with them. #3 CSU breaks
the tie for Green Bay as has been
shown, giving Green Bay the 6
seed and Valpo the 7 seed. As
in the previous case, the 8 and
9 seeds depend on the YSU-CSU
game.

3. Green Bay beats Loyola and Valpo
loses out.

Green Bay gets the 6 seed, Valpo
ends up with the 7 seed, and again
the 8 and 9 seeds depend on the
CSU-YSU game.

4. Green Bay loses to Loyola and
Valpo finishes 8-10 (here it
doesn't matter which game is
won)

In this case, Green Bay finishes
tied with Loyola at 7-11 and
Valpo gets the 6 seed. Green
Bay wins the tiebreaker as has
been shown via Wright State and
gets the 7 seed, Loyola the 8
seed, and YSU the 9 seed.

5. Green Bay loses to Loyola and
Valpo loses out

All three teams are tied at 7-11.
As has been shown, Loyola wins
the head-to-head and gets the 6
seed, Green Bay finishes 2nd for
the 7 seed, and Valpo is left
with the 8 seed. YSU gets the 9
seed.

2. 5th place is 8-10

This must include UIC and Green Bay (who
necessarily beats Loyola). Valpo can also
finish 8-10 by splitting their final two
games.

a. UIC, Green Bay, and Valpo tie at 8-10

Head-to-head is splits all around. All
were swept by #1 Butler.

1. Valpo beats Wright State but loses
to Detroit

Valpo wins the tiebreaker, as has
been shown, and takes the 5 seed.

UIC wins the remaining tiebreaker
via Milwaukee as has been shown.
UIC gets the 6 seed, Green Bay the
7 seed.

Once again, the 8 and 9 seeds
depend on the CSU-YSU game.

2. Valpo beats Detroit but loses to
Wright State

As has been shown, Valpo loses this
tiebreaker and ends up with the 7
seed. As above, UIC wins the tie
with Green Bay, giving UIC the 5
seed and Green Bay the 6 seed, and
the 8 and 9 seeds depend on the
CSU-YSU game.

b. UIC and Green Bay tie at 8-10, Valpo
loses out to finish 7-11

As above, UIC gets the 5 seed, Green
Bay the 6 seed, and Valpo the 7 seed,
and the 8 and 9 seeds depend on the
CSU-YSU game.

2. 4th place is 9-9

UIC, Milwaukee, Green Bay, and Valpo can all reach
9-9.

a. UIC loses to Milwaukee, Milwaukee beats Loyola,
and Valpo wins out (Green Bay must lose to UIC)

These teams split with each other, so the tie
is broken by Wright State in favor of Valpo who
gets the 4 seed. Milwaukee wins the tie with
UIC -- also via Wright State -- and takes the
5 seed, giving UIC the 6 seed.

1. Green Bay beats Loyola for the 7 seed

Since Valpo gets the 4 seed, Loyola clinches
the 8 seed even if YSU beats CSU, giving YSU
the 9 seed.

2. Green Bay loses to Loyola to tie at 7-11

In this case, Green Bay wins the tiebreaker
via Wright State and again gets the 7 seed,
with Loyola getting the 8 seed outright,
and YSU gets the 9 seed.

b. UIC loses to Milwaukee, Milwaukee beats Loyola
and Valpo loses at least 10

As above, Milwaukee wins this tiebreaker to get
the 4 seed, with UIC getting the 5 seed.

1. Valpo and Green Bay tie at 8-10 for the 5
and 6 seeds

The result of this tiebreaker depends on
the Valpo-Wright State game. If Valpo loses
Green Bay wins the tie via CSU. If Valpo
wins, they win the tie.

Since UIC finishes ahead of Valpo, the 8 and
9 seeds depend on the CSU-YSU game as seen
before.

2. Valpo 8-10, Green Bay 7-11

Valpo gets the 6 seed, Green Bay ties with
Loyola at 7-11, but since Milwaukee is the
4 seed, Loyola wins this tiebreaker and
gets the 7 seed, Green Bay the 8 seed, and
YSU the 9 seed.

3. Green Bay 8-10, Valpo 7-11

Green Bay gets the 6 seed, Loyola wins the
tie with Valpo for the 7 seed, Valpo gets
the 8 seed, YSU the 9 seed.

4. Green Bay and Valpo tie at 7-11

Loyola also ties at 7-11, and wins the tie
with a 3-1 record, getting the 6 seed.
Green Bay finishes 2nd at 2-2 for the 7 seed,
and Valpo gets the 8 seed. YSU gets the 9
seed.

c. UIC beats Milwaukee, Milwaukee loses to Loyola,
and Valpo and Green Bay win out

Loyola would finish 7-11 and get the 8 seed,
and YSU would get the 9 seed.

UIC is 4-2, Milwaukee 3-3, Valpo 3-3, and Green
Bay 2-4 in the head-to-head. So UIC gets the 4
seed and Green Bay the 7 seed. Valpo wins the
tie with Milwaukee via Wright State, and gets
the 5 seed, with Milwaukee getting the 6 seed.

d. UIC beats Milwaukee, Milwaukee loses to Loyola,
and Valpo wins out

Well, I failed to get it all done before tip-off time. My bad. It just seems like the analysis trail is never ending. Somehow I managed to stay on top of it the last two years with the Mid-Con tie-breakers, but couldn't quite finish it off this time.

I will be back tomorrow to start over with hopefully less complexities!

Men's seed race 2/27/2008

Part 2: "Wright State wins out, Butler loses out"

Seed Team Conf 1st-round match up
---- ---------- ---- ------------------
#1 Butler 14-2 Double-bye
#2 Wright St. 12-4 Double-bye
Can get #1 by winning out
#3 CSU 11-6 Would host Detroit
Needs help to get #2
#4 UIC 8-8 Would host YSU
Can get #4 by winning out
or sweeping Milwaukee
#5 Milwaukee 8-8 Would host Loyola
Can get #4 by winning out
or splitting with UIC
#6 Valparaiso 7-9 Would host Green Bay
Can get at least #5 by winning out
#7 Green Bay 7-9 Can get at least #6 by winning out
#8 Loyola 6-10 Needs help to get #6 or #7,
can go no higher
#9 YSU 5-12 Needs help to get #8,
can go no higher
#10 Detroit 3-13 Clinched #10

See Men's seed race 2/26/2008 for Part 1, where Wright State and CSU end up tied at 12-6.

Part 2 deals with the case where Wright State and Butler end up tied at 14-4.

First of all, Wright State would have swept Butler and therefore achieve the #1 seed via head-to-head tiebreaker. This would give Butler the 2 seed, and CSU the 3 seed.

It also implies that Valpo is either 8-10 or 7-11.

Detroit still has the 10 seed clinched. In fact, this is true no matter what scenario takes place. However, in this particular scenario it is not immediately clear whether YSU will be the 9th seed or the 8th seed.

But we will table that quandary for now because if there are other ties higher up, they would take precedence anyway.

I'm going to use the same structure as in Part 1.

4th place could be 10-8 or 9-9, but no worse, because UIC and
Milwaukee play each other (they can't both finish 8-10).

1. 4th place is 10-8 -- either UIC or Milwaukee, who play each
other on Saturday.

a. UIC is 10-8 and gets the 4 seed.

They do this by beating both Milwaukee and Green Bay.

1. 5th place is 9-9 -- this would be Milwaukee

Only Milwaukee can finish 9-9 at this point, by
beating Loyola. Green Bay will have lost to UIC
and can only win 8 at the most. Valpo in this
scenario loses to Wright State and can also win no
more than 8.

a. 6th place is 8-10 -- Valpo and Green Bay are
the only teams at this point who can finish
8-10. Loyola can't win 8 because they will
have lost to Milwaukee. Valpo does it by
beating Detroit. Green Bay does it by beating
Loyola.

1. Both finish 8-10

Valpo and Green Bay split. They would
have both split with #1 Wright State.
They both have been swept by #2 Butler.
Green Bay split with #3 CSU while Valpo
was swept by them, so Green Bay gets the 6
seed and Valpo the 7.

With Loyola losing both remaining games,
they finish 6-12.

a. YSU beats CSU to also finish 6-12

YSU split with Loyola. Both were
swept by #1 Wright State and #2 Butler.
Both would have split with #3 CSU.
#4 UIC swept Loyola, but split with
YSU, So YSU gets the 8 seed and Loyola
the 9.

b. YSU loses to CSU to finish 5-13

Loyola gets the 8 seed and YSU gets
the 9 seed.

2. Valpo finishes 8-10 and Green Bay 7-11

Valpo gets the 6 seed.

Green Bay will have lost to Loyola and so
they both would be 7-11. They would have
split with each other. However, Green
Bay split with #1 Wright State while
Loyola was swept by them, so Green Bay
gets the 7 seed, Loyola the 8 seed, and
YSU the 9 seed (6-12).

3. Green Bay finishes 8-10 and Valpo 7-11

Green Bay gets the 6 seed. Valpo ties
with Loyola at 7-11, and since Loyola
swept Valpo, Loyola gets the 7 seed,
Valpo the 8 seed, and YSU the 9 seed.

b. 6th place is 7-11

Valpo finishes 7-11 by losing to Detroit.
Green Bay finishes 7-11 by losing to Loyola.
Loyola finishes 7-11 because they would lose
to Milwaukee.

Valpo is 1-3, Green Bay is 2-2, and Loyola
3-1 in the round-robin head-to-head, so
Loyola gets the 6 seed, Green Bay the 7 seed,
Valpo the 8 seed, and YSU the 9 seed.

2. 5th place is 8-10 -- this must include Milwaukee.
Valpo can also finish 8-10 by beating Detroit.
Green Bay can also finish 8-10 by beating Loyola,
while Loyola can finish 8-10 by beating Green Bay
(they will have also beaten Milwaukee).

a. Milwaukee and Green Bay finish 8-10, while
Valpo finishes 7-11

Milwaukee swept Green Bay, so Milwaukee gets
the 5 seed and Green Bay gets the 6 seed.
Loyola also finishes 7-11 and they swept
Valpo so they get the 7 seed, Valpo the 8
seed, and YSU the 9 seed.

b. Milwaukee, Green Bay, and Valpo finish 8-10

Milwaukee is 3-1, Valpo 2-2, and Green Bay
1-3 in the round-robin head-to-head, so
Milwaukee gets the 5 seed, Valpo the 6 seed,
and Green Bay the 7 seed.

c. Milwaukee and Loyola finish 8-10, while Valpo
finishes 7-11

Loyola would have swept Milwaukee, so Loyola
get the 5 seed and Milwaukee the 6 seed.

Valpo and Green Bay tie at 7-11. They split
with each other. They both will have split
with #1 Wright State. They both were swept
by #2 Butler. Green Bay split with #3 CSU,
but Valpo was swept by them, so Green Bay
gets the 7 seed, Valpo the 8 seed, and YSU
the 9 seed.

d. Milwaukee, Loyola, and Valpo finish 8-10

Milwaukee will be 1-3, Valpo 1-3, and Loyola
4-0 in the round-robin head-to-head, so
Loyola gets the 5 seed. Milwaukee split
with Valpo. They both will have split with
#1 Wright State. They both were swept by #2
Butler. Milwaukee split with #3 CSU, but
Valpo was swept by them, so Milwaukee gets
the 6 seed, Valpo the 7 seed, Green Bay the
8 seed, and YSU the 9 seed.

b. Milwaukee is 10-8 and gets the 4 seed.

They do this by beating both UIC and Loyola.

1. 5th place is 9-9

a. UIC beats Green Bay

Only UIC is 9-9 and gets the 5 seed. Green
Bay is 8-10 by beating Loyola or 7-11 by
losing to Loyola. Valpo is 8-10 by beating
Detroit or 7-11 by losing to Detroit.

1. Both finish 8-10, which means Loyola is
6-12

Once again, CSU breaks the tie in favor
of Green Bay who gets the 6 seed, Valpo
the 7 seed.

a. YSU beats CSU to also finish 6-12

Again, YSU and Loyola split with
each other, they were both swept by
#1 Wright State and #2 Butler, they
both will have split with #3 CSU,
but while Loyola will have split
with #4 Milwaukee, YSU was swept by
them, so Loyola gets the 8 seed and
YSU the 9th seed.

b. YSU loses to CSU and finishes 5-13

Loyola gets the 8 seed and YSU gets
the 9th seed.

2. Valpo finishes 8-10, Green Bay and
Loyola finish 7-11

Valpo gets the 6 seed.

Green Bay will have split with Loyola,
so Wright State breaks the tie in favor
of Green Bay who split with them while
Loyola was swept, so Green Bay gets the
7 seed, Loyola the 8 seed, and YSU the
9 seed.

3. Green Bay finishes 8-10, Valpo 7-11,
and Loyola 6-12 (they also lose to
Green Bay)

Green Bay gets the 6 seed and Valpo the
7 seed. As shown above, Loyola wins
the tie breaker with YSU in either
event, so they get the 8 seed and YSU
the 9 seed.

4. Both finish 7-11, which means Loyola is
8-10.

Loyola gets the 6 seed. Once again,
Green Bay wins the tiebreaker over
Valpo via CSU and gets the 7 seed,
Valpo the 8 seed, and YSU the 9 seed.

b. Green Bay beats UIC

UIC would be 8-10 for sure. Valpo could be
8-10 by beating Detroit. Green Bay could be
9-9 by also beating Loyola, otherwise they
would be 8-10.

1. Green Bay beats Loyola to finish 9-9

Green Bay gets the 5 seed.

a. Valpo and UIC finish 8-10

They split, but UIC was swept by #1
Wright State while Valpo split with
them. Valpo gets the 6 seed, Green
Bay the 7 seed. Once again, Loyola
at 6-12 wins the tiebreaker with YSU
to get the 8 seed with YSU at the 9
seed.

b. UIC finishes 8-10, Valpo 7-11

UIC gets the 6 seed, Valpo the 7
seed, and again, Loyola 8 seed, YSU
the 9 seed.

2. Green Bay loses to Loyola to finish 8-10

a. Valpo loses to Detroit

Green Bay and UIC tie at 8-10. They
will have split with each other, but
Green Bay split with #1 Wright State
while UIC was swept by them, so Green
Bay gets the 5 seed and UIC the 6
seed. Loyola wins the tiebreaker with
Valpo (7-11) because they swept them,
so Loyola gets the 7 seed, Valpo the 8
seed, and YSU the 9 seed.

b. Valpo beats Detroit

Green Bay, UIC, and Valpo tie at 8-10.
Green Bay is 2-2, UIC 2-2, and Valpo
2-2 in the round-robin head-to-head.
Green Bay and Valpo split with #1
Wright State while UIC was swept by
them, so UIC drops out and gets the 7
seed. Meanwhile, Valpo and Green Bay
were both swept by #2 Butler, but
Green Bay split with #3 CSU while Valpo
was swept by them, so Green Bay gets
the 5 seed, Valpo the 6 seed, Loyola
the 8 seed, and YSU the 9 seed.

2. 4th place is 9-9

Green Bay can finish 9-9 by beating both UIC and Loyola.
UIC can finish 9-9 by splitting with Milwaukee and Green
Bay. Milwaukee can finish 9-9 by splitting with UIC and
Loyola. Either UIC or Milwaukee must finish 9-9 since they
play each other.

a. Green Bay and Milwaukee finish 9-9, UIC 8-10 (losing to
both Green Bay and Milwaukee), Loyola finishes 7-11
(beating Milwaukee but losing to Green Bay)

Milwaukee swept Green Bay, so Milwaukee gets the 4 seed
and Green Bay the 5 seed.

1. Valpo beats Detroit to tie UIC at 8-10

As shown before, #3 CSU breaks this tie in favor of
UIC, so UIC gets the 6 seed, Valpo the 7 seed,
Loyola the 8 seed, and YSU the 9 seed.

2. Valpo loses to Detroit to tie Loyola at 7-11

UIC gets the 6 seed. Loyola wins the tiebreaker
with Valpo to get the 7 seed, Valpo the 8 seed, and
YSU the 9 seed.

b. Green Bay and UIC finish 9-9, Milwaukee 8-10 (losing to
both Loyola and UIC), Loyola 7-11

Green Bay wins the tiebreaker because of Wright State
who they split with while UIC was swept by them. Green
Bay gets the 4 seed, UIC the 5 seed.

1. Valpo beats Detroit to tie Milwaukee at 8-10

CSU breaks this tie in favor of Milwaukee who split
with them while Valpo was swept by them, so
Milwaukee gets the 6 seed, Valpo the 7 seed, Loyola
the 8 seed, and YSU the 9 seed.

2. Valpo loses to Detroit to tie Loyola at 7-11

Milwaukee gets the 6 seed, Loyola the 7 seed (as
shown above), Valpo the 8 seed, YSU the 9 seed.

c. UIC finishes 9-9, Milwaukee and Green Bay 8-10

UIC gets the 4 seed.

UIC beats Milwaukee, therefore must lose to Green Bay,
so Green Bay must finish 8-10 by losing to Loyola.
Milwaukee also loses to Loyola, so Loyola must finish
8-10 as well.

1. Valpo beats Detroit to join a 4-way tie at 8-10

Milwaukee is 3-3, Green Bay 2-4, Valpo 2-4, and
Loyola 5-1 in the round-robin head to head, giving
Loyola the 5 seed and Milwaukee the 6 seed. As
shown above, CSU breaks the remaining tie in favor
of Green Bay, who gets the 7 seed. Valpo gets the
8 seed and YSU gets the 9 seed.

2. Valpo loses to Detroit

Milwaukee is 2-2, Green Bay 1-3, and Loyola 3-1 in
the round-robin head-to-head, so Loyola gets the 5
seed, Milwaukee the 6 seed, Green Bay the 7 seed,
Valpo the 8 seed, and YSU the 9 seed.

d. Milwaukee finishes 9-9, UIC and Green Bay 8-10

Milwaukee gets the 4 seed.

UIC loses to both Milwaukee and Green Bay, so Green
Bay must also finish 8-10. Milwaukee must lose to
Loyola, and so must Green Bay, so Loyola must also
finish 8-10.

1. Valpo beats Detroit to join the 4-way tie at 8-10

Loyola is 3-3, UIC 4-2, Green Bay 3-3, Valpo 2-4 in
the round-robin head-to-head, so UIC gets the 5
seed and Valpo the 8 seed. Since Green Bay split
with #1 Wright State while Loyola was swept by them,
Green Bay gets the 6 seed, Loyola the 7 seed. YSU
gets the 9 seed.

2. Valpo loses to Detroit

Loyola is 1-3, UIC 3-1, Green Bay 2-2 in the round-
robin head-to-head, so UIC gets the 5 seed, Green
Bay the 6 seed, Loyola the 7 seed, Valpo the 8 seed,
and YSU the 9 seed.

Stay tuned for Part 3 (and hopefully the final part): "Wright State finishes 2nd"

The State Of The Other 22, Week 15--The Mid-Majority

3. Butler (Horizon League), 95.286, 25-3 (14-2) [2]

Let's not all forget Butler ever existed, or throw the B-Dawgs under the bus, or forget this is a Sweet 16 team waiting to happen. They had great performances from their two primary guards Green and Graves (30 combined points), a solid game from Matt Howard, they just got Emmeneckered. There's a huge game on Thursday with Wright State which could earn them the regular-season title (and home court advantage in the HL playoffs) with a win. They didn't have that last year, Wright did.

or sweeping Milwaukee

#8 Loyola 6-10 Needs help to get #6 or #7,

#9 YSU 5-12 Needs help to get #8,
can go no higher
#10 Detroit 3-13 Clinched #10

Currently, UIC holds the tiebreaker over Milwaukee with their 1-0 record in head-to-head, but Milwaukee hosts them this week and eliminate that tiebreaker advantage.

Likewise, Valpo currently holds the tiebreaker over Green Bay, but if they lose to Wright State, that tiebreaker advantage would evaporate (Both are 0-2 against Butler, Green Bay is 1-1 against Wright State, but Valpo is 1-0).

Looking ahead to this weekend:

Detroit has clinched the 10 seed, since they were swept by YSU.

Butler clinches #1 seed with 1 Wright St. loss or a victory over Detroit. If Wright St. wins out and Butler loses to Detroit, Wright St. gets the #1 seed via tie-breaker (2-0 against Butler). Butler has clinched the double-bye.

Wright State can clinch the #2 seed with 1 win or 1 CSU loss. They play Valpo and Butler and CSU plays YSU.

If Wright State and CSU both end up tied at 12-6, here is what can happen:

First of all, this implies that YSU is 6-12 (clinching the 9 seed) and Valpo is either 8-10 or 9-9.

They have split with each other and will have both split against Butler, so...

1. 4th place is 10-8

Only UIC and Milwaukee can attain 10-8 records, and they
both can't do it because they play each other on Saturday.

a. UIC is 10-8. Milwaukee would be 9-9 or 8-10

Wright State is 2-0 against UIC while CSU is 1-1, so
Wright State gets the 2 seed, CSU the 3 seed, UIC the
4 seed.

Green Bay would have to be 8-10 or 7-11 (losing to
UIC), so the only possible 9-9 teams would be Valpo
and Milwaukee.

1. Both are 9-9

Valpo split with Milwaukee, both were swept by
Butler, but Valpo would be 2-0 against Wright
State while Milwaukee is 1-1, so Valpo gets the 5
seed, Milwaukee the 6 seed.

This means Milwaukee beats Loyola on Thursday.
If Green Bay beats them on Saturday, Green Bay at
8-10 gets the 7 seed, and Loyola is 6-12 but
since CSU would have beaten YSU, and Loyola gets
the 8 seed.

If Green Bay loses to Loyola, then both are 7-11
and another tie must be broken: Loyola will have
split with Green Bay. Both were swept by Butler.
But Loyola was swept by Wright State, while Green
Bay split with them. Therefore, Green Bay still
gets the 7 seed, and Loyola the 8 seed.

2. Valpo is 9-9 and Milwaukee is 8-10

Valpo gets the 5 seed. Green Bay, losing to UIC,
will be 8-10 by beating Loyola or 7-11 by losing
to Loyola. Loyola, beating Milwaukee, will be
7-11 or 8-10 respectively.

a. Green Bay beats Loyola and ties with Milwaukee
at 8-10

Milwaukee swept Green Bay, so Milwaukee gets
the 6 seed, Green Bay the 7 seed, and Loyola
at 7-11 the 8 seed.

b. Green Bay loses to Loyola and Loyola ties with
Milwaukee at 8-10

Loyola will have swept Milwaukee and thus
climbed all the way up to the 6 seed.
Milwaukee gets the 7 seed and Green Bay gets
the 8 seed.

3. Milwaukee is 9-9 and Valpo is 8-10

Milwaukee gets the 5 seed. Once again, it all
depends on Green Bay vs. Loyola.

a. Green Bay beats Loyola and ties with Valpo at
8-10. The two teams split, they both were
swept by #1 Butler, but Valpo swept #2 Wright
State while Green Bay split with them, so
Valpo gets the 6 seed, Green Bay gets the 7
seed, and Loyola gets the 8 seed.

b. Loyola beats Green Bay and ties with Valpo at
8-10. Loyola swept Valpo and would therefore
get the 6 seed, Valpo the 7 seed, and Green
Bay the 8 seed.

4. Both are 8-10. This means that there would be a
3 way tie with the winner of the Green Bay-Loyola
game.

a. Green Bay beats Loyola

Valpo is 2-2, Milwaukee 3-1, and Green Bay
1-3 in the round-robin head-to-head, giving
Milwaukee the 5 seed, Valpo the 6 seed, Green
Bay the 7 seed, and Loyola at 7-11 the 8 seed.

b. Loyola beats Green Bay

Valpo is 1-3, Milwaukee 1-3, and Loyola 4-0 in
the round-robin head-to-head, giving Loyola
the 5 seed. Valpo wins the remaining
tiebreaker with Milwaukee because of Wright
State, as shown above. Valpo gets the 6 seed,
Milwaukee the 7 seed, and Green Bay the 8 seed.

b. Milwaukee is 10-8. This implies that UIC is 9-9 or
8-10. Also, if UIC is 9-9, then Green Bay is no better
than 8-10 because in this scenario UIC loses to
Milwaukee and therefore must beat Green Bay. Hence in
the list of alternatives below, "UIC and Green Bay are
both 9-9" is omitted because it can't happen.

Both Wright State and CSU split with Milwaukee, so we
have to move on to 5th place. 5th place will be either
9-9 or 8-10.

1. 5th place is 9-9

a. UIC is the only 9-9 team

Wright State is 2-0 while CSU is 1-1, so Wright
State gets the 2 seed, CSU gets the 3 seed,
Milwaukee the 4 seed, UIC the 5 seed.

Since UIC loses to Milwaukee, they would have
to beat Green Bay to be 9-9. Valpo would be
8-10. Green Bay would be 8-10 by beating
Loyola, 7-11 by losing to Loyola. In the
latter case, they would be tied with Loyola.
If they were tied with Valpo, Wright State
would again break the tie in Valpo's favor
anyway. If they were tied with Loyola, the
Wright State would break the tie in favor of
Green Bay as shown above.

So, no matter what happens, Valpo would be
the 6 seed, Green Bay the 7 seed, and Loyola
the 8 seed.

b. UIC and Valpo are 9-9

CSU is 3-1 (2-0 against Valpo, 1-1 against
UIC), while Wright state would be 2-2 (2-0
against UIC, 0-2 against Valpo), so CSU gets
the 2 seed, Wright State gets the 3 seed,
and Milwaukee gets the 4 seed.

UIC and Valpo split, they both were swept by
Butler, but in this case UIC split with CSU
while Valpo was swept by them, so UIC gets
the 5 seed, and Valpo the 6 seed.

Since UIC loses to Milwaukee, they beat
Green Bay so that Green Bay is 8-10 or 7-11,
while Loyola is 6-12 or 7-11, respectively.
Again, even in the latter case, Wright State
breaks the tie in Green Bay's favor, so
Green Bay gets the 7 seed and Loyola the 8
seed.

c. Valpo is the only 9-9 team

CSU is 2-0 while Wright State would be 0-2,
so CSU gets the 2 seed, Wright State the 3
seed, Milwaukee the 4 seed, Valpo the 5 seed.

This puts both UIC and Green Bay at 8-10,
with Loyola at 7-11. In this scenario, the
two teams split. They both were swept by #1
Butler. They both split with #2 CSU, but UIC
was swept by #3 Wright State while Green Bay
split with them, so Green Bay gets the 6 seed,
UIC the 7 seed, and Loyola the 8 seed.

d. Valpo and Green Bay are 9-9

CSU is 3-1 (2-0 against Valpo, 1-1 against
Green Bay), while Wright State would 1-3 (1-1
against Green Bay, 0-2 against Valpo), so CSU
gets the 2 seed, Wright State the 3 seed, and
Milwaukee the 4 seed.

In this case, CSU is the tiebreaker and it
favors Green Bay (1-1) over Valpo (0-2), so
Green Bay gets the 5 seed, Valpo the 6 seed.

UIC would be 8-10, and Green Bay would have
beaten Loyola. Hence, UIC gets the 7 seed,
and Loyola the 8 seed.

e. Green Bay is the only 9-9 team

Both teams split with Green Bay, so ...

6th place has to be 8-10, and this would
actually be both Valpo and UIC because in
this overall scenario Wright State always
loses to Valpo on Saturday, and UIC can't
finish any worse than 8-10

As we have seen, CSU wins this tiebreaker
3-1 to 2-2. CSU gets the 2 seed, Wright
State the 3 seed, Milwaukee the 4 seed,
and Green Bay the 5 seed.

Valpo and UIC would be tied at 8-10 (with
both Milwaukee and Green Bay winning out,
Loyola falls to 6-12). CSU breaks the
tie in favor of UIC (1-1) over Valpo
(0-2), so UIC gets the 6 seed, Valpo the
7 seed, and Loyola the 8 seed.

2. 5th place is 8-10

This would necessarily involve a 3-way
tie between UIC, Valpo, and Green Bay.
Green Bay would be 8-10 because one of
the UIC losses this weekend would come in
Green Bay Thursday.

CSU is 4-2 (2-0 against Valpo, 1-1 against
UIC, 1-1 against Green Bay), while Wright
State would be 3-3 (0-2 against Valpo, 2-0
against UIC, 1-1 against Green Bay), so
CSU gets the 2 seed, Wright State the 3
seed, Milwaukee the 4 seed.

The 3 teams tied for 5th are each 2-2 in
the round-robin head-to-head. They were
all swept by #1 Butler. UIC and Green Bay
split with #2 CSU while Valpo was swept by
them, so Valpo drops out with the 7 seed.
Green Bay and UIC will have split, both
swept by #1 Butler, both split with #2
CSU. UIC was swept by #3 Wright State,
while Green Bay split with them, so Green
Bay gets the 5 seed and UIC gets the 6
seed.

2. 4th place is 9-9

a. UIC is the only 9-9 team

Again, Wright State wins this tiebreaker 2-0 to 1-1.
Wright State gets the 2 seed, CSU the 3 seed, and
UIC the 4 seed.

Milwaukee and Valpo would be 8-10. Milwaukee would
be UIC's remaining victory, so Green Bay would be
their remaining loss, and Green Bay would also be
8-10. Loyola would also be 8-10, beating both
Milwaukee and Green Bay. Hence, we have a 4-way
tie at 8-10.

Milwaukee would be 3-3, Valpo is 2-4, Green Bay
would be 2-4, and Loyola would be 5-1 in the round-
robin head-to-head, giving Loyola the 5 seed and
Milwaukee the 6 seed. Wright State would break the
tie between Green Bay and Valpo, giving Valpo the 7
seed and Green Bay the 8 seed.

b. Milwaukee is the only 9-9 team

Again, Milwaukee can't break this tie because they
split with both teams. So... on to 5th place.

In this case, 5th place is necessarily a 3-way tie
between UIC, Green Bay, and Valpo all at 8-10. As
shown above, CSU wins this tiebreaker 4-2 to 3-3.
CSU gets the 2 seed, Wright State the 3 seed, and
Milwaukee the 4 seed.

UIC would be 2-2, Valpo 2-2, and Green Bay 2-2 in
the round-robin head-to-head. They all were swept
by #1 Butler. UIC and Green Bay split with #2 CSU
while Valpo was swept by them, so Valpo ends up
with the 7 seed.

UIC would split with Green Bay, both swept by
Butler, both split with CSU, but Wright State
would break the tie in favor of Green Bay. So
Green Bay gets the 5 seed and UIC the 6 seed.

Loyola gets the 8 seed.

c. Milwaukee and UIC are the only 9-9 teams

Wright State is 3-1 (2-0 against UIC, 1-1 against
Milwaukee), while CSU is 2-2 (1-1 against Milwaukee,
1-1 against UIC), so Wright State gets the 2 seed
and CSU gets the 3 seed.

a. Milwaukee loses to UIC and beats Loyola

UIC would get the 4 seed by sweeping Milwaukee,
who would get the 5 seed.

1. Green Bay beats Loyola and ties with Valpo
at 8-10

Wright State breaks this tie in favor of
Valpo, who gets the 6 seed, Green Bay the
7 seed, and Loyola the 8 seed.

2. Green Bay loses to Loyola and ties with
them at 7-11

They would split with each other. They
were swept by Butler. Loyola was swept by
Wright State while Green Bay split with
them, so here too Green Bay gets the 7
seed and Loyola the 8 seed.

b. Milwaukee beats UIC and loses to Loyola

Milwaukee splits with UIC, they both were
swept by #1 Butler, but while Milwaukee split
with #2 Wright State, UIC was swept by them,
so Milwaukee gets the 4 seed while UIC gets
the 5 seed.

1. Green Bay beats Loyola and ties with Valpo
at 8-10

Wright State breaks this tie in favor of
Valpo, who gets the 6 seed, Green Bay the
7 seed, and Loyola the 8 seed.

2. Green Bay loses to Loyola and Loyola ties
with Valpo at 8-10

Loyola swept Valpo, so they get the 6 seed,
Valpo the 7 seed, and Green Bay the 8 seed
(7-11 by losing to both UIC and Loyola).

d. UIC and Green Bay are the only 9-9 teams (here,
this is possible if UIC beats Milwaukee).

Wright State is 3-1 (2-0 against UIC, 1-1 against
Green Bay), while CSU is 2-2 (1-1 against UIC, 1-1
against Green Bay). This is identical the case (c)
above because to Wright State and CSU, Green Bay
and Milwaukee look the same. Wright State gets the
2 seed and CSU the 3 seed.

UIC will have split with Green Bay. Wright State
breaks the tie in favor of Green Bay as shown above,
so Green Bay gets the 4 seed and UIC the 5 seed.

Valpo and Milwaukee would both be 8-10. With UIC
beating Milwaukee and therefore losing to Green Bay,
Loyola will have beaten both Milwaukee and Green Bay
and would also be 8-10. As shown earlier, Loyola
wins this tiebreaker and then some (4-0 to 1-3 to
1-3) and gets the 6 seed. Wright State then breaks
the remaining tie in Valpo's favor, giving them the
7 seed and Green Bay the 8 seed.

e. UIC and Valpo are the only 9-9 teams

Again, CSU wins this tiebreaker 3-1 to 2-2. CSU
gets the 2 seed, Wright State the 3 seed. CSU
breaks the tie in UIC's favor as shown above,
giving UIC the 4 seed and Valpo the 5 seed.

With Milwaukee at 8-10 (losing to both UIC and
Loyola), UIC would have lost to Green Bay making the
latter 8-10 as well. And Loyola would have beaten
both Wisconsin teams, making them 8-10 as well.
Milwaukee would be 2-2, Green Bay would be 1-3, and
Loyola would be 3-1 in the round-robin head-to-head,
giving Loyola the 6 seed, Milwaukee the 7 seed, and
Green Bay the 8 seed.

f. Milwaukee and Green Bay are the only 9-9 teams

Wright State and CSU both split with each of these
teams, so we go on to 5th place. In this case, 5th
place has to be 8-10 and involves both Valpo and UIC,
which as we have seen is a tiebreaker CSU wins 3-1 to
2-2. CSU gets the 2 seed, Wright State the 3 seed,
Milwaukee the 4 seed because they swept Green Bay,
and Green Bay the 5 seed.

UIC and Valpo would be 8-10. Since UIC loses to both
Milwaukee and Green Bay, they in turn both lose to
Loyola who would also be 8-10. UIC is 3-1, Loyola
2-2, and Valpo 1-3 in the round-robin head-to-head,
so UIC gets the 6 seed, Loyola the 7 seed, and Valpo
the 8 seed.

g. Milwaukee and Valpo are the only 9-9 teams

CSU is 3-1 (2-0 against Valpo, 1-1 against Milwaukee),
while Wright State is 1-3 (0-2 against Valpo, 1-1
against Milwaukee), so CSU gets the 2 seed, and Wright
State gets the 3 seed. CSU in turn breaks the tie in
Milwaukee's favor, giving them the 4 seed and Valpo
the 5 seed.

UIC being 8-10, they lose to Milwaukee who in turn
loses to Loyola. Green Bay would also beat UIC and
lose to Loyola, making all 3 teams 8-10. UIC would be
3-1, Milwaukee 1-3, and Loyola 2-2 in the round-robin
head-to-head, giving UIC the 6 seed, Loyola the 7 seed,
and Milwaukee the 8 seed.

h. UIC, Green Bay, and Valpo are 9-9 (Milwaukee would be
8-10)

As we have seen, CSU wins this tiebreaker 4-2 to 3-3,
gaining the 2 seed and Wright State the 3 seed.

UIC would be 2-2, Green Bay 2-2, and Valpo 2-2 in the
round-robin head-to-head. All 3 were swept by #1
Butler. As has been seen above, CSU knocks Valpo out
of the tie, giving them the 6 seed. Wright State
breaks the remaining tie in favor of Green Bay, giving
them the 4 seed and UIC the 5 seed. Milwaukee at 8-10
would be the 7 seed and Loyola at 7-11 would be the 8
seed.

i. Milwaukee, Green Bay, and Valpo are 9-9 (UIC would be
8-10)

CSU is 4-2 (2-0 against Valpo, 1-1 against Milwaukee,
1-1 against Green Bay) while Wright State would be 2-4
(0-2 against Valpo, 1-1 against Milwaukee, 1-1 against
Green Bay). CSU gets the 2 seed, Wright State the 3
seed.

Milwaukee is 3-1, Valpo 2-2, and Green Bay 1-3 in the
round-robin head-to-head, giving Milwaukee the 4 seed,
Valpo the 5 seed, and Green Bay the 6 seed. UIC would
have the 7 seed at 8-10 and Loyola would have the 8
seed at 7-11.
