Which mid-major had the most interesting offseason?--Mid-Major Madness
Cleveland State

When is a bad time to fire your coach? Uh, probably in the middle of July, which is what Cleveland State did a couple of weeks ago when it dumped Dennis Felton after just two seasons. As of July 24, his replacement has not been hired. Standout guard Tyree Appleby quickly transferred to Florida. Rashad Williams stayed in the conference, but will now be suiting up for Oakland. Jaalam Hill, Stefan Kenic and Seth Milner are currently on the transfer market. That’s the top five scorers from last year’s team! Bart Torvik’s T-Rank currently has the Vikings rated at No. 332 heading into next season. Oof.

Mid-Major Positional Rankings: Point Guard--CBB Central
#9. Antoine Davis (Detroit)

Vitals: Sophomore, 6–1, 170 pounds
Stats: 26.1 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 3.6 apg, .400/.380/.857

Probably the toughest player to peg in these rankings, Davis’ scoring exploits make him one of the most exciting players in college basketball. However, he still has work to do in the efficiency, ball control, and defense departments to become a complete player and lead Detroit to the top of the Horizon League. Still, given Davis is one of just four players since 1992 to average 26 points per game as a freshman season, I think it’s fair to say he’s on fast track to stardom.

#2. Northern Kentucky (Darrin Horn)– Another perfect hire. Horn has the ideal pedigree for a one-bid-league hire: prior D1 success, regional connections, high-major experience, and an appealing style of play. Horn won big at Western Kentucky before floundering at South Carolina, but working on Shaka Smart’s staff at Texas has rebuilt his stock and his recent work recruiting and developing Jaxson Hayes should not be overlooked. NKU is a job with high potential and they got the perfect man for the job.
