Daniyal Robinson, Cleveland State coach
Should Robinson get the job at Drake, it would bring the current Cleveland State coach back to Iowa.
The 47-year-old Illinois native served as an assistant at Iowa State from 2008-10 and then returned to Ames to work on Steve Prohm’s staff in 2015. He was retained as an assistant when Otzelberger became head coach in 2021, before leaving for the head coaching position at Cleveland State in 2022.
During his time with the Cyclones, Robinson helped Iowa State to two Big 12 Tournament titles and four berths in the NCAA Tournament. He helped coach 12 athletes to the NBA.
Cleveland State has a 42-29 in Robinson’s two seasons as head coach.

Unfortunately one of the most fun tournament stories thus far will come to an end here, but such is the nature of March Madness. The Golden Grizzlies, the plucky mid-major with a veteran coach who sent mighty Kentucky packing, face the red-hot Wolfpack, a school with a history of underdog triumphs in this event. Oakland’s bench bomber Jack Gohlke and N.C. State’s crafty big man D.J. Burns became instant crowd favorites in the Steel City, but this contest will likely hinge on whether primary producers Trey Townsend for the Grizzlies or the Wolfpack’s D.J. Horne get more help.

15 — No. 11 NC State vs. No. 14 Oakland (Saturday, 7:10 p.m. ET, TBS)
Both NC State and Oakland have had incredible March runs and looked great in huge first-round upsets. By seeding, this appears to be a close game. The issue is that Cinderella runs don’t last forever, and at least one of these teams is bound to come crashing down to Earth on Saturday. The game doesn’t even project to be that close — KenPom has this game projected as the second widest margin of the day — especially if Oakland’s contested shot-making regresses to the mean. This game features two of the three lowest-seeded teams playing on Saturday, and has huge “snoozefest” potential if the magic dies.

Meet Jack Gohlke
Five years ago, March Madness’ newest star was a redshirt freshman at Hillsdale College (Division II). Today, he’s the breakout star of the 2024 NCAA Tournament. The 6-3 Gohlke scored 32 points and made 10 three-point shots in Oakland’s 80-76 win over Kentucky on Thursday night in Pittsburgh. If the Golden Grizzlies continue to advance in the NCAA Tournament, Gohlke will only continue to be a household name. Oakland will meet NC State on Saturday in the Round of 32.

As is the case with Alabama vs. Charleston, even potential blowouts can be incredibly exciting when defense is optional. Kentucky’s D has been hit-or-miss (mostly miss) the entire season, and that should help Greg Kampe’s Oakland Grizzlies score at a high enough rate to avoid an embarrassing blowout. This game also has Reed Sheppard playing in it, and any opportunity to watch the best pure scorer in college basketball is appreciated.
