YOUNGSTOWN — Jason Pacanowski has been named director of men’s basketball operations at Youngstown State by coach Jerry Slocum.

Pacanowski joins the YSU staff after serving as a graduate assistant coach at Southern Illinois in 2007-08.

Pacanowski earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Southern Illinois in 2006 and a master’s degree in sports management from Southern Illinois in 2008.

SMITH ADDED TO VU'S STAFF: Christy Smith has joined the Valparaiso University's women's basketball staff as an assistant coach for the upcoming season. Smith was the head girls coach at Harrison High School last year. Smith, a Benton Central grad, play collegially at Arkansas. Smith led the Razorbacks to the Final Four in 1998. She led the nation in free throw shooting as a freshman. She was selected 17th overall in the WNBA draft by the Charlotte Sting in 1998.

VUJIC JOINS NORTHWESTERN STAFF: Former Valparaiso men's basketball player Ivan Vujic has joined the Northwestern staff as an assistant coach. Vujic comes to NU after most recently serving as the director of basketball operations at DePaul University the past two years. The Split, Croatia, native played at VU from 1998-2000, averaging 10.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while helping lead the team to a pair of Mid-Continent Conference regular-season and tournament titles.
