MSU 66, Penn State 60: Spartans finally pull away late--The Detroit Free Press
It finally took some huge Branden Dawson defensive plays against Newbill and key shots from Bryn Forbes, Denzel Valentine and Travis Trice for MSU to prevail, 66-60, and avoid what would have been a killer setback.
...
MSU went up two. Penn State tied it. MSU went up two. Penn State tied it. Then Forbes finally hit his first shot for MSU, a corner three – answered immediately by a Newbill three with Dawson's hand in his face.
...
Costello then found Forbes for a three to make it 57-51, and Trice got a breakaway layup off a steal to make it 59-51. Dawson blocked Newbill into the hands of Valentine … who stepped on the sideline before a fast break could materialize.
Spartans beat Nittany Lions in back-and-forth contest--The Detroit News
It was back and forth from that point as Michigan State got buckets from four players while Newbill carried Penn State. After Bryn Forbes hit his first 3-pointer of the game to put MSU ahead 44-41, Newbill answered with Dawson's hand in his face to tie the game at 44 with 8:39 to play.

Costello then scored on a layup to put Michigan State back in front and after another Michigan State turnover, Shep Garner hit a contested jumper from the corner to tie the score at 46 before Forbes nailed a 3-pointer from the wing in transition to put the Spartans ahead. However, Garner hit his own on the next possession ahead of a Valentine layup that put MSU up 51-49.
...
Michigan State appeared to be pulling away when Penn State coach Pat Chambers was called for technical and Valentine split the pair before another 3-pointer from the corner by Forbes. That was followed by a block from Dawson that led to a layup from Trice and a 59-51 lead for Michigan State.
