Trice scored 18 with 10 assists to lead MSU (12-5, 3-1 Big Ten), which capped off a three-victory week. Valentine scored 17, and the rest of MSU's starters also finished in double figures – Branden Dawson with 13 points and nine rebounds, Gavin Schilling with 13 points and Bryn Forbes with 11.

Valentine hit a clutch bank shot to tie the game. Demps hit two free throws with 28 seconds left after a questionable foul call on Forbes, then Valentine tied it with 18.5 ticks left after a questionable call on a jumper.

Demps missed a tough three on the last possession, and in overtime the Spartans got two foul shots from Schilling, a Forbes jumper and a Trice jumper to go up six. That was the cushion MSU needed, and a Dawson breakaway dunk capped off the escape.
