Ten observations from 2012's final Saturday--College Basketball Nation Blog
9. On the flip side, the Horizon League had a solid showing Saturday, as Loyola ended DePaul's seven-game win streak and Valparaiso handed Isaiah Canaan and Murray State an extremely rare home loss with a 66-64 victory. Ryan Broekhoff had 18 points for the Crusaders and Jordan Coleman added 10. Valpo outrebounded Murray State 38-25 and forced 17 turnovers.

Mid-Major Matchup of the Day: Valparaiso vs. Murray State

Valpo-MSU is a matchup between two mid-major stars: Isaiah Canaan and Ryan Broekhoff. Canaan is having the All-American season that was expected of him, averaging 20.9 points and 3.9 assists per game, while Broekhoff is one of the more unheralded impact forwards in the country with his 16.6 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.

Murray State will be pushing the tempo, but both teams shoot well from the floor. Keep an eye on who contains Ed Daniel in the paint for Valpo. If no one does, rebounding could be the deciding factor Saturday.

No soup for you: Is Murray State still the favorite in the Ohio Valley?

Everyone knew Murray State would take a step back from last season, but the Racers have now dropped two in a row after losing at home to Valparaiso on Saturday. Valpo might be the Horizon favorite, but it's also a team whose best win was over Kent State and had losses to Oakland and Nebraska. Even more disconcerting is the fact Murray State was up by 11 in the first half, and led for most of the early parts of the second half. With Belmont playing better (though it lost 66-63 to UCF on Saturday), Murray State could have some competition for the OVC title.
