ALL IN THE FAMILY: Wisconsin-Milwaukee junior guard Ja'Rob McCallum is a cousin of Detroit Mercy sophomore guard Ray McCallum; their fathers are brothers. McCallum entered the game as the Panthers' leading scorer, at 11.3 points per game, but he scored just six against the Spartans.
FAMILIAR FACE: MSU starting guard Brandon Wood played against Wisconsin-Milwaukee while he was at Valparaiso. Wood transferred to MSU after graduating from Valparaiso and will be a Spartan for just one season. Wood got the Spartans off to a nice start when he fed a wide-open Payne for a dunk, but he took a seat on the bench after a couple of bad three-point attempts.

CHARGE IT: The teams combined for 11 charges. "I didn't see that many," UWM coach Rob Jeter said. "That was a joke. I don't want to get fined."
