Louisville at Butler: It’s Still Going to be a Good Game… Right?--Rush The Court

No. 6 LOUISVILLE AT BUTLER (2 p.m. Saturday at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana)

It is interesting why Butler is not ranked, given its two previous trips to the national championship game, but the Bulldogs simply have to prove themselves every year. This is the highest-rated team to visit Butler since 1992, when North Carolina won 103-56. How times have changed. Butler plays teams much closer now than it did before. Louisville beat Butler 88-73 last year, but the teams are tied at 5-5 in the overall series and are 2-2 in Indianapolis. Where Louisville spreads out its scoring, led by forward Shane Benahan and his 12 points and 12.5 rebounds per game and guard Peyton Siva’s 10.5 points a game, Butler relies on forward Andrew Smith and his 18.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game and guard Chrishawn Hopkins’ 17 points a contest. Louisville has beaten Tennessee-Martin and Lamar while Butler has lost to Evansville and beaten Chattanooga.

Saint Bonaventure at Cleveland State 11/18/2011--The Mid-Majority
Bettin' is a Habit - Friday 11/18--Ballin' is a Habit

7:00PM - St. Bonaventure's (1-0) at Cleveland State (2-0)
The Bonnies have one of the most underrated big-men in the country in Andrew Nicholson, but an injury to forward Marquise Simmons will leave the team short-staffed up front. Cleveland State has proved that they can still win even without Norris Cole on the roster. I like the Vikings to win this one by double-digits

Pick: Cleveland State -6.5

Marquee Match Up

7:00pm St. Bonaventure @ Cleveland State

The Bonnies are coming off a romp over Cornell last Friday to open their season and looked very good. The whole team was involved in the win and Canadians Andrew Nicholson and Matthew Wright really showed that they were ready to play this year. Nicholson went off for 24 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks and a steal in his 33 minutes while Wright chipped in 13 points, 7 boards, 5 dimes and a block in his 27 minutes off the bench. Now Cleveland State is not Cornell and they sure aren’t going to let the St. Bonaventure come in for an easy win. The Vikings are coming off an impressive opening game win over Vanderbilt and are looking to be pretty pumped up still. Cleveland St won’t have someone to watch up with Nicholson one-on-one so expect him to play through double teams to have a good game. If the defense does collapse on him in the middle, which it likely will often, look for Wright to be gunning from deep. This should be very good game to watch.

7:00pm: St. Bonnie (+6) @ Cleveland St

These two could hardly be more evenly matched. Cleveland State is riding high after downing Vanderbilt and is looking to start 3-0. Meanwhile, St. Bonaventure should be one of the top teams in the A-10 and would love nothing more than to stop the Vikings in their tracks. Cleveland State has youth and talent on the perimeter while Bonnie has dominant senior Andrew Nicholson on the inside. KenPom has these two ranked No. 84 and No. 86. Both teams are shooting exactly .500 from the field. We're in for a dogfight of one or two points, not six or seven.

Detroit Mercy pounds Concordia--The Detroit Free Press

Detroit Mercy 113, Concordia 68

DETROIT -- Jason Calliste’s 19 points led six Detroit players in double figures in a 113-68 victory over Concordia (Mich.) on Friday night.

Calliste went 6-for-7 on 3-pointers and sank 1 of 2 free throws.

The Titans (2-1) got 17 points apiece from Nick Minnerath and Ray McCallum and 12 each from Doug Anderson, LaMarcus Lowe and Chase Simon.

Anderson had a double-double, adding 13 rebounds. Evan Bruinsma had 10 rebounds, and Simon had eight assists.

The NAIA Cardinals (3-3) were led by John Schaeffer’s 15 points and Rocko Holmes’ 14.

The Titans sank 44 of 79 shots (56 percent) to 27 of 69 (39 percent) for the Cardinals and held a 50-31 rebounding advantage.

Concordia kept it close early, and Detroit led just 48-37 at intermission. But the Titans shot 62.5 percent during a 65-31 second half and put the game away.

Virginia Cavaliers Basketball Schedule Preview: Part 1--Streaking The Lawn

Next up the Cavaliers host Tony Bennett's former team, Green Bay, on ESPNU. They finished 14-18 last season, 8-10 in the Horizon League, losing to Butler twice, but only by six and two points, respectively. In fact, they had 13 games decided by five or fewer points last year. They won seven of them, which means that they could be 20-12 or 8-24. Still, I don't think this is one we should be losing sleep over.
