Frain: Ten Underrated Mid-Major Transfers to Watch for--The Portal Report

2.) Noah Reynolds – Green Bay

Green Bay hasn’t had a season with 10+ wins since 2019-20, but under first-year head coach Sundance Wicks and Reynolds, the Phoenix sit 9-8 and are primed to change that. After spending two seasons at Wyoming, averaging 14.5 PPG as a sophomore, Reynolds wanted a new challenge and an opportunity to lead his own team while continuing to showcase his skills. Following over Wicks, a former Wyoming assistant, Reynolds has only further developed his game in Green Bay, averaging career-highs of 18.4 PPG, 3.6 RPG, and 4.2 APG, while shooting a career-best 51% on field goals and 36% from three.

And he truly has become a leader for these Phoenix, starting all 17 contests of the early season Reynolds has contributed a 24-point effort at Valparaiso, 31 points to beat out UIC, and more recently, notched a career-high 39 points against Wright State. With Green Bay off to a 5-2 start in the Horizon League despite being picked dead last in the preseason poll, look for Reynolds to continue exceeding expectations throughout the rest of this season.

9.) Jalen Jackson – Purdue Fort Wayne

After back-to-back seasons with a winning record but falling short in either Horizon League play or the conference tournament, the Mastodons are back with a vengeance, off to a 13-3 start despite being picked eighth in the preseason poll. With a new cast of transfer contributors in this offseason, Jackson has been critical to Purdue Fort Wayne’s early success averaging a team-leading 15.1 PPG.

Shooting 52% from the field and 43% from deep, Jackson’s consistency has been evident throughout the season with 13 points to upset DePaul, 19 points in a win over Green Bay, and recently notching a career-high 24 points over Wright State. The Mastodons have a 4-1 record in conference play thus far and the UIC transfer has been a major factor in leading this offense. Look for him and Division II transfer Rasheed Bello to finally break through for PFW in the Horizon League Tournament later this season.
