Primarily a collection of news links about all 11 Horizon League teams on a daily basis, culled from online newspapers, school athletic websites, the conference website, and school newspapers, plus some other content from time to time.
This award was essentially created for Antoine Davis, so it’s never a
surprise when he shows up here. The NCAA’s career 3-point leader was up
to old tricks last week, hitting seven triples in a 94-89 loss to
Milwaukee before going 8-of-15 in a win over Green Bay. In the process,
Davis scored 42 points against the Panthers and 41 against the Phoenix.
The fifth-year Titan now has eight 40-point games in his career — the
most of any player since 2010. Coming into the weekend, Davis was tied
with Chris Clemons (Campbell) at six just behind Markus Howard (Seton
Hall) and Marcus Keene (Central Michigan). After his latest 3-point
barrage, Davis now stands alone as the most prolific 40-point scorer of
the past 13 years.
HIGHLIGHT REEL
Ahmad Rand, Milwaukee
Thresholds: national leader in dunks
Rand’s line: 9 dunks
Last week’s slam poet laureate was Rand, who led the country in dunks
with nine while also putting together his best back-to-back showing of
the season. On Thursday, Rand went for 15 points, eight rebounds and
four blocks in the Panthers’ win over Detroit. Against Oakland on
Saturday, the former Memphis and Oregon State big man had 16 points —
including six of his dunks — to go along with six rebounds and two
blocks in an 80-77 win. Rand is third in the country in block rate at
14.0 percent. He is also one of only five players in the country with 35
dunks and block rate over 10 percent; of that group, he has the highest
marks in offensive rebounding and steals and he’s the only one to have
hit a 3-pointer.
