Head Coach: Will Ryan, in his first season as a Division 1 head coach
All-Time Series: Marquette leads, 9-3

In case you are wondering because this is the state of Wisconsin, yes, Will Ryan is Bo Ryan’s son. This is his first Division 1 head coaching job. He was hired to replace Linc Darner, who was let go in May with six years remaining on his contract. It’s definitely a weird situation, because by May, UWGB had to be aware of the financial stress that was headed their way as an institution of higher education..... but they still paid Darner to go away.

Ryan was hired about a month later, and it seems year 1 might be a little bit on the rocky side. Darner guided what would be his final Phoenix squad to a third place finish in the Horizon League last season, but he did that with seniors as two of the three guys averaging more than 10 points per game. In fact, three of Green Bay’s top five scorers were seniors, so Ryan is going to have to figure out how to prod points out of the roster in some other fashion.

Amari Davis (15.9 points, 4.0 rebounds) was the #2 scorer on the Phoenix roster as a freshman last season, so the 6’3” guard from Ohio is your likely bet as the go-to star this coming season. P.J. Pipes chipped in 9.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per games as a junior a year ago while knocking down 45% of his long range attempts. That’s a pretty good guard pairing for the Phoenix to build everything else around.

12 head coaches on the rise entering the 20-21 season--College Hoops Daily

Andy Toole, Robert Morris: No head coach was as consistent as Toole over the last decade in the Northeast Conference and that ability will now carry over to the Horizon League. Despite losing several players who transferred to power conferences, Toole has still amassed seven seasons with at least 18 wins. If everyone had equal talent, this guy would be viewed as one of the top performers in the sport.
