5. Green Bay

The top four of this list are in a tier to themselves. After that, it gets a bit more tricky. I'll slot the Green Bay Phoenix here at fifth, as they return most of their scoring as well as the best player in the Horizon last year, Keifer Sykes. The Phoenix does have to contend with losing surprising draft pick Alec Brown, and his ability to space the floor did provide much clearer driving lanes for Sykes. And of course, Brown's size on the interior was useful against smaller Horizon competition, but the sum of his game was less than what the pieces said he should have been. Returning forward Jordan Fouse was a much more complete defensive player a year ago than Brown was, and he'll team with Sykes to cause opposing ball-handlers fits. Carrington Love and Greg Mays also return as starters for the Phoenix, but the team will rely mostly on Sykes to carry them. Sykes is a tremendous scorer and slasher, who averaged 20.3 points per game and drew 6.5 fouls per 40 minutes, but he's also an underrated passer who was second in the Horizon with a 30.7 percent assist rate. Sykes is another mid-major guard that has an outside shot to be an All-American this season. He should lead the Phoenix to an improvement on their 24-7 record last season and into the NCAA Tournament.
