Jones named
YOUNGSTOWN — Deidre Jones has been named director of basketball operations for the YSU women’s basketball program.
Jones spent the last three seasons as a student manager for the women’s basketball team at the University of Michigan.
She will assist with film exchange, travel, on-campus recruiting and various administrative duties.
She walked on to the Michigan program before knee injuries ended her playing career. She also played two seasons at Wabash Valley College in Mt. Carmel, Ill.
She is a native of Farmington Hills, Mich.
Basketball volunteers
YOUNGSTOWN — The YSU women’s basketball team completed its second community service activity in the past three weeks at the Park Vista Retirement Community of Youngstown.
The student-athletes and coaching staff hand-stirred apple butter that was later sold at the 36th Annual Park Vista Apple Butter Festival.
All proceeds benefitted the Park Vista Life Care Fund, which provides continuing care to retirement communities and services to Youngstown residents.
Longtime YSU supporter Helen Stambaugh has organized the event since its inception in 1972.
The next service project is Sunday at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
They will volunteer as servers at the spaghetti dinner from noon to 3 p.m.
