VU WOMEN'S HOOPS AGAIN RANKS IN ACADEMIC TOP 25: Valparaiso University's women's basketball program finished the 2007-08 school year ranked 24th in NCAA Division I for team grade-point average. Keith Freeman's squad tallied a 3.286 GPA. This is the 10th straight season the Crusaders have been ranked in the top 25 on the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Honor Roll.
DIEBLER, HAANPAA NAMED TO NABC HONORS COURT: Valparaiso University guards Jake Diebler and Sam Haanpaa have been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court. Diebler, who will be a senior this season, carries a 3.57 grade-point average as a marketing major. As a junior, Diebler started all 36 games for the Crusaders and ranked second in the Horizon League with a 2.71 assist-to-turnover ratio. Haanpaa, who will be a junior this season, has a 3.63 GPA as an international business major. He is also VU's all-time leader in 3-point percentage.
Jennifer Samble, Valparaiso University's associate director of athletics for compliance and student services/senior woman administrator, has been appointed to the NCAA's administration cabinet and will begin a four-year term that runs through 2012. Samble, who has been VU's SWA for the past six years, was nominated by the Horizon League for the position on the 21-person cabinet.
