ALL-ARTHUR TEAM OF THE WEEK

Onto the All-Arthur Team, we now look at the players who best fit our 12 imagined roles on the basketball court based on their performances last week. The players below were identified by filtering through Bart Torvik’s database using arbitrary thresholds (‘ar-thr’) to narrow things down. For an explanation of each of the roles listed below, read our introductory post from last year.

The Main Attraction — Antoine Davis, Detroit Mercy

Even if he hadn’t set the NCAA’s career 3-point record — he did — Davis still would have been the country’s most unstoppably ubiquitous player last week. Davis scored 32 points in a five-point loss to Youngstown State on Wednesday, and he followed that up with a season-high 41 — including 11 made 3-pointers — in an 87-75 win over Robert Morris two days later. Davis recorded a usage rate of 39.7 in that win over RMU, his highest of the season, and it was the fifth 40-point game of his illustrious career.

The Junkyard Dog — Chris Brandon, Northern Kentucky

Brandon was a monster on the boards over two games last week, registering 18 rebounds in a loss to Milwaukee before adding 11 more against Green Bay. Out of all the players in Division I to play at least 40 percent of his team’s minutes last week, only Brandon finished with an offensive rebound rate over 20 percent and a defensive rebound rate over 30. As a result, the fifth-year senior is now averaging just over 10 rebounds per game. He also dropped a season-high 16 points in the Norse’s win over Green Bay.

Mid-Major nominees for Player of the Week

It was a huge week for a lot of players. The holidays were over and the teams got back to a normal practice and game schedule. That led to some players having huge weeks. Records were broken and guys were putting up 30-point games left and right. Shrinking the huge list down to five players was extremely hard.

The following players are the final five and the award will be given to one of these players.

Antoine Davis- Detroit Mercy

Davis has spent his entire career playing for his father and he is one of the best players in the country. He keeps getting better every year.

Loss to Youngstown State- 32 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists

• NKU HOOPS PERFORMING THE SPLITS: A 50-50 weekend with similar split results for the Norse. While the men were losing 80-75 at Milwaukee and then winning 74-53 at Green Bay, the women were losing 74-67 at Oakland and winning 75-57 at Detroit Mercy, leaving the men with an 11-8 overall record but 6-2 in the Horizon League. The women are 10-7 overall but only 4-4 in the Horizon. Both teams are home this weekend with the men getting the Thursday-Saturday slots against Cleveland State (7 p.m.) and Purdue-Ft. Wayne (6 p.m.) with the women going earlier on Friday (11 a.m.) against Purdue-Ft. Wayne and 2 p.m. Sunday against Cleveland State. With most of the rest of the season on the road for both, NKU can’t waste these home floor opportunities.
