Vikings beat Grizzlies to earn Horizon League crown--HoriZone Roundtable

Dennis Gates took over a Cleveland State program in turmoil just two years ago, but he led the team to the Horizon League title on Tuesday night with a 80-69 win against Oakland. Cleveland State (19-7) was led by Torrey Patton, who had 23 points and 10 rebounds with four assists.

Five automatic bids were given out tonight with Mount Saint Mary’s winning the NEC, Oral Roberts winning the Summit League despite North Dakota State making a furious comeback, Gonzaga coming from behind to beat BYU in the WCC, Drexel won the Colonial, and Cleveland State winning the Horizon League.  Chad and David review all that, as well as all of the other tournament action from today, and preview a very busy day tomorrow.

Wright State took care of business against IUPUI, 53-41, in the Horizon League title game to earn its second NCAA Tournament bid in three years. South Dakota did the same to a tough Omaha team in the Summit League finals, riding a 37-point second half to a 66-43 win and the program’s second consecutive conference championship.
