Good Morning Hoops Nation: November 24--The Mid-Majority

Then, how about this. The Horizon League's participants have had some of the weirdest mood swings of the early going, starting with Loyola's win over Georgia after a loss to a D-II (contest winner announced tomorrow) and continuing with Green Bay's 72-66 Saturday victory over Marshall in sunny Daytona Beach. That wouldn't be shocking on its own, but it did come just a day after a 17-point obliteration at the hands of Rollins. Not Henry Rollins' new correspondence school, we're talking about the D-II Tars.

Finally, couple of RLU's from last night:

at Valparaiso 69, Central Florida 52 -- UCF used to be one of us, you know. In the first year of this site, 2004-05, the Golden Knights won the Atlantic Sun and we saw them go down to Connecticut in the NCAA first round. Now, after joining C-USA, they're dead to us. The school has been a popular punching bag for sub-Red Liners since, losing to Nevada and Sam Houston State last season. Last night in the ARC, one of TMM's most beloved gyms, the Crusaders never trailed in destroying UCF by 17, outrebounding their guests by 11 and holding them to 30 percent shooting. Urule Igbavboa (call him "Iggy") double-doubled with 15 and 14.

Good Morning Hoops Nation: November 18--The Mid-Majority

Loyola (Ill.) 74, Georgia 53 -- The Ramblers' season started off in bizarre fashion on Friday. Senior guard J.R. Blount established himself as the nation's leading scorer for a moment, scoring a gigantic 41 points on 12-for-22 shooting. However, Loyola dropped that opener by seven points... to Division II Rockhurst, also known as Kansas City's Jesuit University. But when the team moved on to the NIT Season Tip-Off pod in West Lafayette, Ind., the Ramblers came alive. Breaking open a 29-all tie at halftime, Loyola destroyed the SEC tourney champions. It was the school's first win over a team from that conference since a 1964 NCAA upset of Kentucky in a regional third place game, back when they did things like that.

Purdue 78, Loyola (IL) 46. All you really need to know about this game is that it was 40-14 at halftime. We’re sure Loyola was content to leave the NIT with its upset over Georgia in tow, but Purdue is a really good team. E’Twaun Moore and Robbie Hummell led the way with 14 and 13 pts, respectively, but it was a solid team effort from the Boilers, placing five guys in double figures. Purdue will play BC on Wednesday night.
