Purdue Fort Wayne men’s
basketball added a transfer forward to its roster for next season with
the addition of former Texas-San Antonio Roadrunner Chandler Cuthrell,
who has one year of eligibility left.
The 6-foot-8 Cuthrell
averaged 4.9 points and 4.4 rebounds for UTSA last season while shooting
33.3% from 3-point range and 39.3% from the floor.
In January, he scored 13 points on 3-for-5 3-point shooting in just 14 minutes in an overtime loss against then-No. 13 Memphis.
Cuthrell
previously played two junior-college seasons at Odessa College. He
joins a Mastodons transfer class that also includes junior college guard
De’Vion Lavergne.
This
was a fascinating situation: The Sussex Hamilton High School standout
became one of the top recruits in the nation, but when he chose his
college destination, he chose family and home. His father, Patrick Sr.,
happened to be head basketball coach at UW-Milwaukee, giving the Horizon
League program its highest-profile recruit ever.
But
Baldwin battled injuries and didn’t take the scene by storm, and the
Panthers struggled, so much that Baldwin Sr. was fired after the season.
Baldwin
Jr. fulfilled the expectation of “one-and-done” and jumped to the NBA,
where he became the 28th pick in the draft by the Golden State Warriors.
After an offseason trade to the Washington Wizards, he averaged 4.4
points in 13.0 minutes per game this season.
Purdue Fort Wayne women’s
basketball rounded out its six-player transfer portal class with the
addition of 5-8 former Arkansas-Pine Bluff guard Tia Morgan, who has one
year of eligibility left.
Over two seasons with the Golden Lions,
Morgan played in 46 games, started 16 and averaged 5.1 points, 2.1
rebounds and 1.9 assists in 21.2 minutes. She shot 35.1% from 3-point
range this past season and scored 10 points with five assists in a
Southwest Athletic Conference Tournament win over Alabama A&M.
Morgan previously played two seasons at Tyler Junior College.
“Tia
brings an edge to the defensive side of the ball that we needed to
bring in this offseason,” PFW coach Maria Marchesano said in a
statement. “She is a true competitor willing to take on any challenge.
She also brings added depth to the point guard position with her ability
to handle and create for others.”
Morgan joins a transfer class
that also features former Central Noble standout Sydney Freeman
(Dayton), guards Lauren Ross (Michigan State) and Ella Riggs (Furman),
forward Hillary Offing (Penn State-Lehigh Valley) and wing Jordan Reid
(Indiana Wesleyan).
